This may be a doofus question. Per Shogun Master Mr. Kelley's glossary . . .

FLAT AND VERTICAL FLAT LEFT WRIST Example – Left hand Karate Chop.
Mechanical – The Paddlewheel blade relationships as vertical to its axis of rotation and vertical to its plane of rotation.
Golf – Positioning the Left Wrist to be vertical to its Left Shoulder Axis and to its Associated Plane during Impact.

He's saying here that the Karate Chop is executed with the left palm not facing the plane, but perpendicular to the plane . . . Right?

I think Homer is referring to the Left Wrist during Impact Interval. In this case, the Left Wrist should always be Vertical/perpendicular to its associated Basic Plane, depending on the Hinge Action used -- Horiztonal, Vertical or Angled.

Palm faces plane for Standard Wrist Action (10-18-A). That's why Swingers need to Swivel -- Uncock then Roll -- to get ready to apply their selected Hinge Action (usually Dual Horizontal) at Impact.

Yes, begin Uncocking with left palm facing plane because of the Sequenced Release used by Swingers (4-D-0).

For maximum power, ball is struck before Full Extension of the Lever Assembly. And remember Hinge Action refers only to the Impact Interval.

Full extension is reached very soon after Impact. How soon? Who cares...
