New to TGM - Extensor Action and PP#1
Guys

I am a 10 hcpper who has decided to try and make it to the next level in my game. With the season over I want to set myself some goals and get some good stuff to work on so ive been looking at TGM and trying to simplify it for myself on the range

What I have found is that by taking the club away by pushing down with my right thumbpad onto my left hand/thumb (PP#1) and ingraning the feeling that this move keeps my left arm straight and extended all the way to the top, I seem to be hitting the ball real well. What I want to check is that this is an acceptable move, using PP#1 purely to get the club to the top. I dont concisouly feel any motion with my right forearm for example, all I do is keep pushing down and feeling that extension whuilst manintaining my setup angles

Is this a good thing to work on? Will it get me into trouble later? Do I need to incorporate another move with my right forearm?

Many thanks

Extensor action is absolutely a good thing to work on and you what you describe is on the right track.

As you continue to develop your alignments, you will likely begin to really get a good feel for your right forearm flying wedge (right forearm and shaft in line from down the line view at impact) and with that addition to your above description you will find significantly greater consistency. In any case, extensor action is IMO one of the single 'big things' to build into your motion.

Magic of The Right Forearm
I'm not an expert but I play my best golf when I have the extensor action you describe combined with the "Magic of The Right Fore Arm".

Refer to 2-F and 7-3

"In essence, bending and straightening the Right Elbow will raise and lower the left arm and/or cock and uncock the left wrist without bending, flattening, or cocking the right wrist. Right elbow action either powers and/or controls all three elements of the Three Dimensional Impact, (downward, outward, and forward)." Homer Kelley

Tks for the replies. What ive tended to notice is that the extensor action with the PP#1 takes me on a very rotray path around my back leg as the wrist cups. Almost an inside takeaway. But from there I can hit the ball as hard I want with my right hand/forearm. Tending to pull the ball a little as I get the path drilled in but the distance/power is astonishing - totally effortless

Do others feel this inside move? The inital takeaway using this method of cupping the right wrist/flattening the left has the club pointing well behind me when its parallel to the ground - left arm tight to the chest?

Extensor action is a move "away from center" and directly down the left arm to the ground - not toward the ball, unless you have zero #3 accumulator. Simply stretching the left arm in the direction it is pointed at address to a spot on the ground inside the ball-target line.

It is likley that you are now trying to extend to the ball, which could tend to cause the off plane/inside move.

Thanks Edz

Think I get it now. I was finding yesterday that by using the hands to keep my right palm pointed at the target line all the way back I can just push the right hand back down at the ball hard. This seems to lead to a more vertical shoulder tilt where my left shoulder comes down. I also seem to get much less wrist cock this way .. is that a problem? Distance is good but could it be better?
