It was seven years ago- Oct 25, 1999 that Payne Stewart died in an absolutely bizarre plane crash that ended in South Dakota. Not without warts, Payne Stewart was a true classic and left a void unfilled on the Tour. What a tremendous Ryder Cup Captain he would have been. And it would have been fun watching him of the Senior Tour, just to see him smile. Rest in Peace, Payne. You are missed.
The worst day in golf as far as i can remember in my 33 years, i know others such as Tony Lema, Davis Love snr also were lost in similar ways but Payne Stewart was from what i saw and read an amazing guy and true family man. So sad.
A number of years ago a local golf pro here in Pittsburgh decided to have a golf glove and picture of Payne Stewart framed. Both had been autographed by Payne. They sat in his home for a couple of years and then tucked in a closet in his office for a couple more years. Just kept thinking that he would hang it somewhere but never got around to it. On 10/25/99 he found it in the closet and FINALLY hung it up in the hallway leading to his office at the club. That afternoon he heard the news that shocked the golf world. Tragic coincidence.
A great player and person who will always be missed.
I remember bumping into him during a rain delay at the Scottish Open at Gleneagles years ago when I was a junior. Spoke to me and a few other juniors from my club and wondered why we were still hanging about in the pouring rain, what our handicaps were and so on.

I will cut a funny clip tonight (Hong Kong time)that Payne Stewart pretended don't know playing golf in front of Chuck Cook. A real hacker golf swing look!
