Lag and Putting
Two questions:

1. Do you use Extensor Action when putting? I assume you should since TGM, to my knowledge, doesn't talk about any exceptions.

2. How do you create Lag when putting? Since I use #1 accumulator only stroke with the ball very near low point, I attempt to establish the Clubhead Lag by starting my downstroke before the Backstroke motion is complete. On something like a 5-foot put where the backstroke would be fairly short, this has the feel and appearance of a jerky ungolflike motion. How should you establish the Lag?

Your Pattern
You had a "pattern" before you read TGM. Wasn't bad- maybe could be better. I'd start with your pattern and then if you'd like to add or take away something - great! If you try to become a "Machine"- that is rigidly and limitedly apply a concept without understanding the entire nature under which it operates - you'll be in for trouble. Not a speech - just a word of warning- I've been there before.

If just using accumulator #1 is "natural", "comfortable", "gives great results", or is something that you think is worthwhile pursuing then that's great- however, in regards to the lag loading procedure- I'd start with "Which one were you using before you knew what it was?"- Also, all three are available to you- just because you are using accumulator #1 doesn't mean you are hitting or swinging or doesn't mean you have only one choice in regards to your loading procedure.

Try dragging the putter through impact.

Actually, I've become very comfortable with the piston-only type stroke for putting--it has been a real improvement for me. I can't say that I've even thought about Lag when I've putted before, even after reading TGM.

But Homer makes the point that Lag should exist from Driver to Putter, so I'm trying to at least see if I can incorporate Lag into my putting stroke even if I'm only test driving it on my living room carpet. With my previous stroke, I would swing back, pause, and swing forward--no Clubhead Lag feel. I mean it works ok, but I've got 5 winter months in Colorado to work on doing it right--it just that I'm not sure what right is.

PERSONNALY, ive found using lag on putts real good direction and strike of ball wise, but speed wise, ive had trouble...way too fast it seems. from the time i feel it on pp3 at change in direction, ive gotten to much momentum it seems, but ive made quite a few of those 'steve amers' using this lol.

Sustain,

I do use extensor action when putting even though I use more of a "shoulders only" #4 accumulator stroke.

I've tried zeroing out everything but #1 and as Mike O mentioned, I think it was too dramatic a departure from my prior pattern. However, if you are going to use a piston-like motion I'd check that you aren't over-accelerating. Also, perhaps you're making the backstroke too short for the shorter putts, thus giving it that choppy look and the feel that you have to get "quick" at start-down in order to get it to the hole.
