I tried to do a search on this topic but had no luck.
As with many of you it is still cold and white here but I am trying to "groove my new swing" in the living room, with an occasional trip out side for a few full swings.
Somewhere in my readings, either in forums or the yellow book, I saw something about the right elbow returning to the original plane. Yesterday as I was making some practice swings I focused on bringing my right elbow back down to a position near my the front of my right hip then tracing the delivery path back to an imaginary ball.
It felt good, but without the visual aid of ball flight I was guessing.
1) Is this an appropriate mechanical move?
2) If so is it appropriate for hitters and swingers?
Sounds like a job for the "Dowels." Dowel work is important. Check out the past threads for details on how to do.
Others can answer the rest of your question better than me, but I found for me, when 'Hitting' the bump to take out the slack lower my hands (not to my hips) on plane perfectly. I due tend to take my hands a bit higher at the top then ideal. I'm working on that, too.

The right elbow is an extension of the right forearm and that is what you want to be on plane at impact. So if you setup with that right forearm on plane, then yes you will want to return that right forearm to that same position at impact.
If you setup with some kind of adjusted address your right forearm will not be on plane at setup, but should get there with a proper stroke.
If you are "trying" to get your right forearm on plane during your full stroke you are going to have a lot of trouble because the right forearm on plane is an effect of other proper motions, not something you try to achieve.
So get some dowels, learn your flying wedges, and practice with a mirror how they work in the back/down stroke and eventually you are going to translate those MECHANICS into a FEEL and will ingrain them in your stroke.

I have been doing some dowel drills, but once again I am indoors with low ceilings and I am only doing 1/2 swing drills at most and the elbow never gets far from it's starting point.
I think where I have been running into problems with the full swing is from the top I've been pushing the shaft away with PP1. ( Is that Clubhead throwaway? )
Again I have not been hitting balls but when I am full swinging in the back yard and focus on getting the right elbow down to or near the original starting point or plane before I start driving PP 1 and tracing the path with PP 3 it feels right and the visual of the clubhead path looks right.
I need the feedback that ball flight and divots will provide.
