This last week got to spend some time in Kiawah. My wife gave me a gift to play some golf there. I opted to do a short game half-day school. Got lucky and I was the only one signed up Nice to have one-on-one instruction.
Was really good for me. The instructor had browsed through TGM in her PGA school (she wrote a paper to compare and contrast it with Hogan's Five Lessons, and concluded they were miles apart ) She helped to point out my main problems: I was sucking the clubhead inside too quickly on the backswing, pulling the club inside on impact, and overswinging.
What I amazed me, was how much having TGM as a constant background translator to help me get the most out of my lesson. For the too inside takeaway, I began to focus on my right forearm takeaway, extensor action, and tracing the plane with PP#3. For pulling the club too inside at impact, I tried to drive PP#1 more crossline. For overswinging, using extensor action again.
This all helped because these faults are in my full swing as well. So fix the chip, helps the pitch, helps the punch and hope to help the full swing.
This at least gave me confidence to see other instructors to get that extra pair of eyes. You guys have helped to train me in TGM so it can be my constant filter while enjoying golf instruction in any language. Thanks all.
Wicked man. It's good to know that you can "keep up" with what an instructor is saying eh...and know the effects and importance of the things they tell you...so you can decide for yourself I guess eh.
