I'm stuck on some basics .... from 5-0., can someone help me on ".... failure to clear the Right Hip (Roundhouse) can initiate almost every alignment disruption .... " Please elaborate on the concept of "Roundhouse": what does it mean, what are it's causes, what can it do to otherwise good mechanics, and what needs attention to avoid it? Especially related to Swinging. Thanks.
I believe that it has something to do with how the right arm and therefore the club moves when you fail to clear the right hip. When the hip is "in the way" in the downstroke, you Computer will react and send the hands around the impeding hip. This will inevitably lead to an outside path and a bent plane line.
Absolutely right Matt. The body is aware that if something is in the way, it will adjust dispite our best intentions. Here's a dumb example; put your left hand palm facing your nose, right next to your nostril, now with the other hand, try and clap your left as hard as you can. You don't have to try this to know you will automatically move your left hand or head to avoid a bloody nose. If your right hand stayed on plane and you didn't move, there would be a painful collision and your wife would call the men in little white coats to take you away to the funny farm...where life is beautiful all the time...
In terms of coming down on plane, it's a requirement that the right hip moves (clears) to make room for the right side of the triangle to bring the clubshaft down on plane. Hence, "axis tilt", "hip slide", "Hip bump", and all of the other terms used to describe the downstroke transition move. If the hip doesn't clear, then the right side has no alternative than to "go around" the house, resulting in a bent plane line. Fore Right...Fore Left...

It means moving the hip out of the way by shifting it parallel to your selected Delivery Line on the Start Down. This is what causes the Axis Tilt because your head must be stationary during this bump or slide.
Also, FWIW, I find that I get the best results by letting my educated hands dictate what the rest of the body does during the swing. Homer, from 9-1. ZONE #1 "Emphatically, Hands are not educated until they control the pivot." Also, "The Pivot involves twisting the body and shifting the weight during the Stroke so as to maintain balance, a motionless head and any required tilt of the torso."
