I have noticed that it seems I am very flat footed at impact, but even more so I have this little chicken wing with my left arm. My guess is my body is not near the correct aligment at impact (very square legs, hips, shoulders). I have an impact shot of myself and Ted Fort at impact, its pretty clear why I am not hitting the ball with the authority that I should be. I guess I don't understand the process of getting the hips and body more open at impact or what could be causing this fault?

gmp, I'm going through the same thinking process as you. I have never started the downswing from the ground up which is what you need to do in order to get those hips more open at impact. So at the moment I'm working on stepping on the left heel, while making sure I put the left cheek of the rear on the "pane of glass", while also bringing the right shoulder down plane towards the ball. It's very difficult to learn this with the club in the hands and a ball as a target - much better to do drills - imagine the move and practice throwing balls into the ground ahead of where the ball would be to get the idea, then take a club (still no ball) and repeat the transition move over and over without making full swings - just from the top of the backswing to the transition move. Then when you do put a ball down, make sure you do plenty of practice swings between every shot. This process seems to be working for me as I'm starting to get it down. It's important to film yourself frequently though so that you can see whether you are exaggerating any of the moves. I notice now that if I do the transition well, the arms get catapulted towards the ball with very little effort from me. This is like a swinging motion for me. I'd be interested to hear if anybody has any other drills/ideas that help with this "starting from the ground up" idea.
