THE BIGGIES
What starts it (club) back?
What keeps it going to the Top or End?
What starts it DOWN?
What keeps it going through IMPACT on to the Finish?

Homer and Lynn talk about a reverse pressure point- #3, aka extensor action.
Extensor action continues to bring the hands to the top as the right elbow bends- the left arm straightens and the left shoulder reacts to the right shoulder's turn.

A hip bump. I can't tell you how important this is. It is a small, slight move that sets the pivot and the power package for delivery. 10-14-B.
Aiming point, full arm extension finishes it.
What do you guys think?

"A hip bump"
For Fred Couples that "bump" is about 8 inches.

What starts it DOWN?
|
Hip Slide Drill
1. Impact Fix at Setup
2. Backstoke to Top
3. Hip Slide (no rotation, SLIDE)
- Shoulder remains ONLY movement is hips
4. Straight Down the Line
Do Slow tillyou get the Feeling
You should be able to feel PP#3 at the TOP and Down Through.
How much you slide your hips is definitely limited by the movement that would disrupt the plane (shoulder position in this case)

Something must be used to start the club in motion. What do you guys do?
Something keeps it going to the Top or End. Muscle activity... or momentum...what do you do?

I am confused on the same thing
I am confused on the same thing... when starting the backswing I seem to see several suggestions, maybe they are all correct or misleading I just don't know. When starting the backswing, do you start with a small hip turn, a shoulder turn, neither just swing the club back and up and in.
I have seen on an older statement on Chuck's forum to swing the club back with your back about a foot from the wall and don't hit the wall. That seems to me no turn of shoulders or hips..... help lift the fog.

Hmm?
I take the club back, up and in, a few different ways with different patterns. I've never seemed to settle on only one way. I bring the club down, out and forward in only a couple of ways.
I would like to have only one way up and one way down. Anyone with suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I watched Goosen on Saturday and slow motioned almost all of his swings from down the line. Very interesting observation. In the beginning of the round his arms and shoulders were very much together all the way till his shoulders stopped, then his arms would continue to the end of his backswing. Beautiful. At the end of the round, his arms were starting the swing back and his shoulders and arms would complete the backswing together. I thought it was very interesting to see him progress this way from the beginning of the round to the end. I have seen players have arms start the shorter clubs and shoulders start the longer clubs but this is the first time I have seen anyone progress this way with all clubs. I noticed also that when he started with his arms he added a wrist turn.

Faldo and Azinger were very critical of Dimarco doing this.

Faldo, DiMarco
...and how about Tiger. In his book, his shoulders are fully turned 90 degrees while his left arm is still parallel to the ground. From this position his arms completing the swing is very noticable.
