Heading to Laurel Valley tomorrow!
Looks like the weather is supposed to be OK tomorrow (Sunday) so I'm going to hit the Senior PGA Championship final round at Laurel Valley. I had the honor to play there a few years ago and it remains the most incredible course I have ever played. I have played Oakmont twice and a few other courses the tour plays on , but this place is wonderful. If you gave me the money and put Oakmont and Laurel Valley within a few miles of my house I would join Laurel Valley in a heartbeat. Now that I have some basic TGM knowledge on board I'm looking forward to viewing some swings close-up. Want to check out Larry Nelson and REALLY want to see Dana Quigley---looks like a protype hitter. Any other hitters on the Senior Tour I should watch??? Any bags you want me to peek in and check equipment?? Let me know by 11pm tonight and I'll do my best!!

Stay healthy everybody. Dr Dave

Consulting: if you're not a part of the solution , there's good money to be made in prolonging the problem

re: Consulting "I resemble that remark".

They had DQ's swing on the broadcast network. He holds the bent right/left flat wrist FOREVER. All the player/analyst said was "That's unusual..... I guess he can hit the ball low when he wants to."

Have a super day!

Charlie

Well, the tournament was interesting. Incredible setting. Larry Nelson really crosses the line at the top, but a very well-balanced swing. In fact, all of these guys have great rhythm--nobody jumps at the ball like I occasionally do. Larry also hit a few shots and then was looking at his right hand and then trying to make a fist. Appeared to have injured it so will wait and see if he takes any time off. I'm sure you all read about Inman's infamous 18th hole experience---par 5---he took a 15. Spun 3 shots off the green into the water and then 2 shanks. It wasn't pretty.
Dana Quigley has a great compact hitting stroke. And he doesn't take any time at all to set up and hit. Several times he hit while people were applauding a shot just hit by one of his playing partners. The ultimate example of "ready golf."
Always interesting to see someone with a Titleist cap and driver headcover pull out a Cleveland driver! Saw a few examples of that.
Peter Jacobsen "gets it." Even while playing he talks to the crowd around him or when leaving a green and heading to the next tee. He's figured out that the fans appreciate seeing a players personality as well as their golf skills.
As I went past one tee box I watched Graham Marsh--sets up at impact fix and used a hitting stroke. Quigley is a hitter but didn't seem to set up at impact fix.
Overall a great day. These guys really compress the ball and nobody overaccelerates--I guess thats why they are on to the next tour stop and I'm sitting here at the computer! Later kids. Dave

Sounds like a great day.

You do not have to set up at Impact Fix to be a "Hitter." Impact fix is something that can be found in warm ups before a round and for most advanced/Pro golfers, Impact Fix has been well established. I use Impact Fix several times during a round as a double check and when I practice.
BUT.. a “Hitter” can set up in adjusted address with a “Hitters” hand position- a straight left wrist and bent right wrist.

Larry's Right Wrist Problem

Larry injured his right wrist last year and apparently is still having problems with it. I asked him a few months ago if it could have been caused by the stress of keeping it Bent through Impact. His response?

"I hope not."

6bmike,
I wasn't implying hitters had to set up at impact fix---just pointing out the difference between these 2 guys. Graham Marsh sets up like Ted Fort does (and I'm trying to copy!)----Quigley sets up with adjusted address. Sorry for the confusion. Dave
