Need some help with keeping my right shoulder on plane
Well i took some video of myself the other day and was pleasantly surprised. Lots of times your swing looks better in your head than it does on video, well it was pretty close to what i envisioned in my head which was nice
However i found out why my divots tend to point a little left. Conventional wisdom would tell you i have a bent plane line and am coming over the top. Nope.
What's happening is that during impact, instead of the right should continuing to go DOWNPLANE it starts to head left much too soon. This all makes sense because my divots start to point right (you can actually see it in the grass) but then they curve left pretty quick.
I also have a feeling this is why i fade the ball so easy as well.
What are some drills that i can do to get rid of this?
Thanks
Jim

It's a guess without seeing the swing, but the problem may be conceptual. If you see the ground directly underneath the ball as the bottom of the circle, then you visualize the ball as leaving the clubface on a tangent and the club starts to move inward. However, if you view the ball leaving the clubface as a chord (within the circle) -- which is what it is supposed to do -- then you can more easily visualize how the clubhead must continue to swing down and out along the circumference to the bottom of the circle.
Actually "see" that circle continuing beyond the ball, down and out into the ground. It helped me; maybe it will help you, too.
I love this advice! Hard to beat Plane Geometry and Alignment G.O.L.F. Very nice post!

Put a head cover an inch or two left and forward of the ball.
Make swings without hitting the head cover. You may be suprised how far right you must swing to stay on plane.
BTW - I found/find that the flat left wrist and the precise right forearm angle of approach are challenging indeed.
