Give me more!!
Hi guys,

Think I may be in trouble!

I've always heard the instructors on the videos talk about the sound of compression and thought "yeah, I've caught a driver solid before, it does sound good."

Just got my yellow book last week and can't put it down. Just kept rereading over and over trying to understand. The only thing I could definitely determine was that I was a hitter.

Well, got out to the practice net today with 20 balls. I knew I wouldn't be getting the exact method right but going by what I've gotten out of the book, off of posts and off of the video lessons I determined that I must do certain things.

There were certain things that I already had in my old swing so I didn't concentrate on them as they were already ingrained (steady head, square-square set up, etc.).

I've been using a flat left wrist and bent right wrist for years but have never had my left thumb and pp#3 on aft side of club. Also the entire concept of not pushing off of right leg was foreign and took some getting used to. I had a tac-tic and tested the swing with no ball, sure enough - no click till late in follow thru.

I realized that there is a lot to do and a good check list but 99% of the stuff is done before the swing.

Got out my old driver, teed one up. Set up square to square, checked my new grip position (dang, that looks turned to far right), took a couple of long waggles over the ball making sure to trace path with right forearm and ending each waggle past the ball holding flw, then I took the club back and down with the only swing thought being that the right arm trys to straighten the entire time, paused just barely at the top, came from inside with elbow at side position and tried to bury my right forearm into the ball. I tried to take a small air divot with the driver.

Well, it hit it pretty solid and I was thinking that this might be a good, reliable, repeatable way to hit the ball. Then it happened!! My fourth ball did not sound like it was being hit by a driver going around 100mph, it sounded like it had gotten hit with a concrete truck going around 200 mph. Just unreal sound!! Not a metallic tink of a driver but a solid, unbelievable thud that drowned out the driver noise. I had to take a minute and regroup to see if I could remember the feel so I could duplicate it. I now know what the sound of compression sounds like. It seemed like the actual ball was making a sound instead of the driver.

Why am I in trouble? Because now that I've had a taste of power, I want more!! Must have more!!!!

Recap: 20 balls hit with new hitting stroke, about 8/10 are solid (a lot better already than my old swing) and about 2 or 3/10 are just smoked (one broke the nylon and went through the net)with that sweet, glorious sound
