Definiton of level?
The book says a straigh line to the nuckels of the "first" finger. In my field of work the first finger is the thumb and I realise suddenly that Homer must mean the indexfinger ajajaj.

And, the right hand is dropped along the side of the shaft, not above it. Shaft in the base of the right hand fingers.
