Rarely Flat
 

For most folks, the right wrist should never be flat at impact (VJ is an exception to this recommendation). In fact it can be maintained in a bent position until well after impact. Keeping the left wrist flat and the right wrist bent before, during, and somewhat after impact seems to help me maximize compression which is a huge step in improving one's ball striking.

I meant to indicate to get the left wrist back to flat. If you have the left wrist bowed at the top, do you have to get it back to flat by impact?

No, But Never More Than Slightly Bowed
 

I don't think it necessarily must return to flat at impact (although flat is always recommended). It can be slightly bowed at impact although other adjustments must be made to accomodate (others can weigh in here). Most folks just establish their wedges and keep'em that way (KISS approach).

Adjusted address = mid body hands( bent left wrist / straight right wrist)

Impact fix degree of right wrist bend established by top/end of backstroke

BUT what are the options for timing of the bending of the right wrist during the backstroke and what are the consequences for each timing option
