Mike Austin - reverse roll

I do not want to open a flaming discussion on this. In other words: This is not about "golf swing politics" :)

Just that saw something today that I felt I needed to post.

The topic is the reverse roll that seems to ever so often become a topic when Mike Austins swing is being discussed. Not such a hot topic these days as it used to be 2-3 years ago - though.

Wouldn't you say this clip featuring Dan Shauger (an Austin follower) describing the reverse roll effectively boils down to nothing but a different way of describing the uncocking of the left wrist? My wrists tell me that a quarter turn of the right wrist exactly amounts to a full uncocking of the left wrist.

Thought it was an eye-opener since I have seen a few non-conclusive TGM c/s Austin discussions on the subject here and there.

Effectively a re-statement of Joe Dante's "stop that slice" from 1953.

To the degree that this can help you maintain the bent right wrist, flat left wrist, it can be a helpful step towards learning what it means to maintain the flying wedges at impact (ironically, given the right wrist motion he shows).

The big issue I see is that it is 'counter productive' in learning the proper Rhythm and hinge action for good clubface control.

good for clubhead control in the short term, not good for clubshaft control or clubface control in the long term

it has you actively fighting physics, in an attempt to get better geometry, far better to get both the physics and the geometry via as few compensations as possible
