This is a widely held misconception, even among long-time students of The Golfing Machine. | Mr Yoda, per 6-C-2-0, and I quote: "Clubhead Lag is the 'Secret of Golf'........It can be any one or any combination of pressure points, selected to sense Clubhead Acceleration rate and direction(2-M-2), but herein, unless otherwise specified, always refers to Pressure Point #3" I am not following you sir. I have searched through the book, and for practical and G.O.L.F defined purposes, I believe clubhead lag is in fact the clubhead trailing the hands - or more specifically, the pressure point that produced the original clubshaft flex. Now Mr Yoda, before we continue, lets go to the Glossary, because as Homer says, "Use this Glossary to understand the original mechanical application of a term is identical to its parallel golfing application" And, in The Golfing Machine Glossary, Clubhead lag for golf is defined as the following: "The information transmitted through the #3 Pressure Point by the resistance of the clubhead to change" Now, you could technically say Clubhead Lag is the line of pull of centrifugal force striving to align itself with the clubshaft because of acceleration, and more specifically, the stress occuring at the point of thrust of the shaft itself as also defined in the glossary under the mechanical definition. In otherwards, the clubhead is trailing the shaft! But for all practical G.O.L.F. purposes, I'll stick to golf definition as defined by Homer. By all means, let me know if you find something different. |
