SLACK
I've read quite a few references to SLACK... taking up the SLACK, etc.
This is obviously an important term. Is this term used in the TGM book? Differentiate... TAKING UP SLACK, from EXTENSOR ACTION. It seems to me that SLACK is taken up more dynamically, while EXTENSOR ACTION is a steady pressure or stretching. |
Hip - Shoulder Question
Reading the slack response, with a band connecting my left hip and
my right shouler, how can I move my left hip so that it does not throw my right shoulder (and the stroke) over the top or across the line? Thank you. |
The way to avoid your right shoulder from being thrown off plane is to resist the pull from the left hip. This resistance is what causes the stretching. I can hold a rubber band between my hands and pull with the left while keeping my right hand in place. I will feel the pull but not give in to it until I want to release the power.

Setting The Stage
Quote:
At the Top (8-6), with right triceps Extensor Action 'pushing' to the right (and thereby stretching the Left Arm) and the Left Hip Loading the Lag by 'bumping' to the left in the Start Down (8-7), the stage is set for the Four Stages of Downstroke Acceleration: Shoulder Acceleration (Start Down / 8-7)... Hand Acceleration (Downstroke / 8-8 ).... Club Acceleration (Release / 8-9)... Ball Acceleration (Impact / 8-10)! |
Thank you
I can buy the bump parallel to the target line.
Any move away from the ball with the left hip would tend to throw the right shoulder toward the ball, would it not? Thank you for clearing this up. |

You have a very good question here Upndownn...concerning the Start Down, Hip Action, and the Direction of THE MOVEMENT OF THE RIGHT SHOULDER... ESPECIALLY in how they may relate to the very commonly seen Over-the-top problem. Mr. Kelley has the "cure" for this in the book... but it is a little hard to find. Under 10-7-F "The cure is Pivot Correction." "See 9-1." 10-7-F and 10-7-H are Over-the-Top Plane Shifts... or shifts to a very steep plane. In 9-1... it is probably often overlooked... but in 9-1-7, the Right Shoulder is still very near it's position at the Top. Only, the Hip Bump has occured here. The Hitter's bump will be more on the Angle of Approach(cross line), and the Swinger's will be Parallel to the Plane Line. Then in 9-1-8... the Right Shoulder start's it's On Plane Motion--which would be towards the ball. The Swinger may actually use a Right Shoulder Throw here, to activate the PULL of the left arm. I hope OTHERS will give their view on this!!! lagster |
