Hitting grip pressure...
I've heard that hitters should grip the club more tightly than swingers should...and Arnie apparently squeezes the hell outta the club.
First of all is this true? Second...why? If I had to guess it would be that a tigherter grip means there is less chance of CF coming into the equation. |
If you were going to chop down a tree with an axe, how tight would you hold the handle?
If you were going to snap someone in the butt with a wet towel, how loose would you hold the towel? ------- That help? ;) |
How tight would the grip be, if you would like to bend the shaft by pushing the clubhead against something.

Moe Norman held it tight, Sam Snead loose. The strong single action grip is designed to support the shaft at impact. Assuming you have the shaft and right forearm on the same plane wouldn't you want the right hand to be tightly gripped?

Grip Pressure
Birdie Man was right on- And certainly everyone here seems to agree with a firmer grip for hitting, but as I have posted before- if you're chopping down a tree with an axe- you're using CF- i.e. swinging. If you're pushing on an axe handle to split shingles/shakes- then you're "hitting".
