shanks

OK, im suffering from the shanks (many) on the range but not so many on the course, although over the ball I often feel like I will.

ive been trying to delay the uncocking of the left wrist, which I suppose also means the swivel (term?), so I guess I may be leading the hosel into the ball :? i feel like I'm coming from the inside. Basically i could make some more uneducated guesses, but figure why the hell do that when I have you guys ready on tap

thanks :D

You need more "Up" and not so much "Around"

Do slow motion drills standing with your heels a few inches from a wall. Keep the clubface facing the ball on your takeaway and the butt of the club facing you until hip high. Do this with a split grip, and a normal grip.

Then hit 50 yard pitch shots letting the club 'fall' - gravity only at first -

When hitting the pitch shots - be SURE to take a divot in front of the ball.

AAGGGGGGHH. The Shanks!

There you have it, folks. This is what The Emergency Room is all about:
  • -- A patient in dire need.

    -- A qualified Golf Doc.

    -- A sound Diagnosis.

-- An understandable, suitable Prescription for both instant relief and ongoing care and recovery.
Thanks, Dr. EdZ!

Hope you're feelin' better, Nevermind...

Heed the Golf Doc's advice, and in no time, you will be 'in the pink!'

Do yourself a favor and figure out some way to get it video, u may feel one thing and doing another. It's much rarer to have the shanks from the inside and the solutions are completely different than if you are coming OTT. ED Z suggestion about the swing against the wall is excellent regardless of which type you have, it's more of gettign you to better in swing fundamentals instead of a 'cure' for shanks...

thanks EDZ, will give it a go :D

question.. I should go striaght back to using standard wrist action right when doing the pitch shots right?

GLF I will try and have a look, only thing is the camera I have access to only shoots 15fps, so at full speed it's hard to see much of anything, and if I go half speed I doubt my swing is the same :(

On the range, use impact or duct tape to monitor the effect of any adjustments. You may be "chasing the hosel" even if you don't get the lateral.

Good luck
