A swinger that needs some clarification

2-J-2,

I have had the pleasure of working with Yoda and YodasLuke on this, and welcome any comments. Since my visit (2 weeks ago), I have been working to get on plane (dowels, flashlights, impact bag). I have taken some video, and ,while I am more on plane, when I am hitting full shots (and hitting them well) my divots are still slightly left of the target (ball flight straight, ball goes slightly left of target). I noticed that in the last paragraph of 2-J-2 it reads "Don't hesitate to change your stance Line - for physical or psychological reasons or for the situation at hand.... And your apparently Outside-In Impacts may actually be fine Pull Shots."

My question(s) are these:

What does he (Homer) mean?

Is it possible to perform TGM correctly, and still hit this type of shot?

What I mean, is, is it possible that I just need to setup a little right of my target?

Any and all comments are welcome,

Thanks,

If you're plane is good and you are in deed not coming "over the top" you simply are losing your axis tilt through impact. This is MY biggest issue i try to overcome time and time again.

Basically what happens is the right shoulder travels downplane "some" and it looks good but then you lose the tilt and your upper body brings everything "left" and you end up with solid impact, lag, etc...but it's a pull.

A good shot can be hit with any stance line, provided the club swings on plane, with lag pressure and good clubface alignment.

So you 'can' stand with your feet open, closed to almost any degree, and still hit good shots. That said, it is the shoulder line that tends to have the greatest effect on plane, so always pay attention to the shoulders.

Snead setup a bit closed and pulled it, Trevino open and pushed it.

One of my teamates in high school used to setup well open, and yet still hit a wide sweeping draw. An excellent 'swinger' of the club.

It is generally best though, not to go to extremes without the eye of a good teacher helping you decide what will work best for you in the long run.

Thanks for the input,

EdZ,

You just mentioned two of the best ball strikers in history. I know that the goal is perfection, but is it possible to perform TGM properly doing it the Snead and Trevino way? Assuming my plane line is not bent, just a little left.

Absolutely.

It is the CLUB that needs to be swung and your HANDS that ultimately direct what the club does.

TGM boils down to the imperatives and essentials.

The imperatives and essentials give you efficient force.

The best players in history have always known how to sustain the line of compression, for the shot they intend.

I guess you were very likely on-plane, yet the clubface was square at impact and slightly close at separation.

I would try to hit the inside-after quad. of the ball (or hit the ball slightly to the right of the target) to make the face slightly open at impact and square to the target at separation.

Remember the Plane Line and Line of Flight or Target Line are not the same thing.

Check out Yoda and VJ's video on the Cut Shot.
