Right forearm flying wedge breakdown?

Hi there, I have a problem at the moment pushing my shots high and straight right. I "feel" that on some of these shots i may be losing the flying wedges and bending the left wrist at impact - it seems to me that that would "open" the face (i've checked and it isn't rolling open on the backstroke etc).

Is that assumption correct? when i concentrate on maintaining a flat or even slight arched left wrist it straightens out the ballflight. If i start thinking "hinge action" instead then I tend to hit hooks.

Thanks!

Do you tend to focus on driving your right shoulder down and/or finish in a reverse 'c' position?

If so, you are probably overdoing it, as well as going 'foul' out right field (too far inside out).

Yes actually i've been working through a series of issues, most recently stopping my shoulders turning at the start of the downstroke and throwing me over the top. Been concentrating on dropping the right should and driving down and out from the inside of the ball.

I've almost stopped the OTT move but now finding these pushes are coming out

There are several areas the could be at issue, but first check ball position. Make sure it isn't too far back in your stance.

The reverse C 'is' an accurate way to swing, but your back will hate you soon, so be careful! I don't recommend it for that reason. One area to check if using that move is that you want 'soft knees' through the shot. If you 'post up' on a straight left leg with too much right shoulder (too down, underplane) - you are going way right, every time unless you use the hands to roll hard - hello big hook!

Do some checking of your takeaway - make sure you are not coming well inside. Chances are that you are doing so. Dowel drills, or using a broom or laser can show you if this is the case.
