Right thumb pressure

I play fairly soft Winn grips and i notice a trend of wearing out the grip around the right thumb area. I'm certainly not trying to apply pressure to the right thumb but i'm sure it happens through impact. Anyone got any ideas?

Same deal with my clubs. It's inevitable I think.

Good to know i'm not the only one. Still don't think so much pressure should be there though.

I also have wear areas at the thumbs. It may be due to the size of the contact area. Smaller contact area. Unlike the palm and other fingers, there is not much to keep the left thumb fixed in place to prevent rubbing.

I have had this issue as well, even wearing down cord grips in the right thumb area. An instructor told me it is from the club going off-plane in the transition, and the right thumb tightens against the grip to prevent it from twisting. I don't know if that is correct, but when I don't lay the club off in the transition, which is my main problem, I do not have the wearing down. Also, it only is present on my long clubs, which seems to support this theory.

That may be true. It makes sense. I have similar problems.

This is a good question...should there be pressure exerted by the right thumb during the swing that would cause grip wear where it rests or is this a sign of an incorrect motion somewhere during the swing? There has been discussion of a drill that removes this thumb from the grip in order to sense the pressure (lag) in the right forefinger so is this thumb just along for the ride. Any help from the experts?
