Is this a motion convention of which I am unaware
It has been too long since you folks had to suffer me, so I thought I would pop a question.
It has to do with the vids of John Riegger in the gallery. In both Basic and Acquired Motion he does his setup thus... he does a pretty good job of aligning the shaft with his right forearm... places the clubhead behind the ball .... takes his setup... and for the very last thing, changes his right hand grip, dropping the handle down in his fingers.... and his forearm goes off alignment with the shaft and the plane.???? Then when I looked at his forestroke framebyframe, he will extend his right hand past level to get everything back aligned at impact. Sometimes he makes it, sometimes he doesn't. Is this a preferred motion? Or specifically for Swingers? The reason I ask is because this setup alignment is so common to the pros. But it would completely foul my swing(Hit). I would probably take the club to Top fine, but I guarantee that I would roll my Angled Hinge in the forestroke. Fore Left! |
Where to Look for the ideal swing
Theodan,
Welcome back and thanks for the question. It's great to see people really breaking down the video's and paying attention to alignments. Makes my work on bringing them to the site very worthwhile. Bear in mind that although John is one of the best ballstrikers on tour, his is a work in progress, just like every other tour player that is looking for the ideal pattern including Tiger. So it's not perfect, but getting closer every day he makes a golf stroke. Under Rob's guidance, he will be raising many championship trophies, and it could be any day now. He is a golf athlete like nearly every player on tour, so he will get impact alignments right with some effort. The idea is to make them effortless and full of confidence. He has all the tools he needs. These videos were taken early this year and John mentioned to me last week he is swinging even better now. Note that he is a swinger, not a hitter so don't attempt to pattern your swing (hit) after his. It's a pivot powered swing with the mind in the hands. Only Rob and Lynn can comment on the things John is working on right now, but if you look at some of Johns old swings from two years ago compared to what you see in the gallery, the alignments are light years better now. Rob, Lynn and John can give you the details. All I can say is do what John does in concept. Model your swing (hit) based on ideal alignments found in the yellow book and practice them until you own them. Lynn and Ted are more than qualified to help you work out all the hitting details. Please keep posting. Been missing you around here. Bagger |
Thank you for your response, Bagger. We haven't corresponded before, so I would like to take the opportunity to express my appreciation for your efforts in mustering together the LBG site. It has been a year and a half since I spent 2 days with Lynn, and visited with Ted. My absense from the Swamp since then has been an issue of frustrated opportunity, not a lack of desire. During that time, the videos and ongoing polylogue of information accumulated here have been of unmeasureable value to me.
Regarding John.... I singularly commend his choice to pursue the road less traveled. Smart guy. My observations and question intended no judgement, because I had no context of what point he was, in pursuit of his swing. When I see something unexpected, I gotsta' know. :) I will look forward to him hoisting a trophy. Shamelessly edifying, I will be yelling "Look, Look. See, all of you detractors". Keep up the good work. Circumstances predict that I will be able to return full tilt to my impassioned refinement of my Total Motion. It will also provide me the opportunity to find a way to return in kind, the help and guidance I have received here. charlie |
