Instant Power Move - AJ Bonar?

I was just looking at the new Golf Magazine from October 2006 and was reading about a revolutionary new power move that is the "biggest secret you've never been told, it's controversial, and it's unconventional."
I again quote from the article, "Developed by teaching pro AJ Bonar, it lets you do what instinctively feels right-swing with your hands instead of your body. The magic move rotates the clubface through impact-instead of trying to keep it square-and it can boost your your clubhead speed by up to 14 mph and your drives by 30 yards."
While I applaud AJ for his position, I hardly think he developed this way of thinking. Reading through the article he is simply describing hands controlled pivot motion and the #3 accumulator action, or release swivel and finish swivel. Either way HE DID NOT DEVELOP IT!!!!! I would love to get some feedback on this article and possibly have Lynn pen a response to Golf Magazine. We need to let the world know who actually did the work.

I was wondering when someone would post on this. Gee whiz, now the whole world knows about horizontal hinging. Thank you Golf Magazine. :)

Had a guy in our golf shop today, said he read the article, and he starts showing me how he's "flipping" his hands at the ball and hitting it great.

What was he really doing destroying his flying wedges flat right wrist bent left. Gross!!!

A finish swivel is great, but don't do it before follow through and the hinge action.

It's hard to write an article and not have people misinterpret it, unless they have a better understanding of the swing which TGM supplies. Until then I tell my students to pay attention to the pictures because as a wise teacher told me "The Truth is in the Pictures." I haven't gotten the golf mag yet but I will pick it up to see what A.J.'s pics look like, I sure hope he has a flat left wrist.

Sorting Through the Instructors Textbook.

I doubt we will know

I seriously doubt we will know who "developed" the concept.
Probably some shepherd about 500 years ago.
It was not AJ, Homer, or anyone else we may have met in this lifetime.

A.J. Bonar Video

Here's a video from Golf Magazine featuring A.J. Bonar and his "Magic Move." His "Home Run" Flat Left Wrist Roll through Impact -- TGM's Horizontal Hinge Action -- has been standard fare for good-playing Swingers for centuries, but most golfers don't do it. Instead, they attempt to keep the Clubface Square to the Target -- Steering, the first Snare (3-F-7-A) -- and therefore can benefit greatly from this advice. The same is true of the advice to strike Downward through Impact -- standard stuff, but most golfers don't do it. Instead, they attempt to Scoop the Upward into the air.

Probably the most controversial part of his method is the use of the Double Wristcock (Cocked and Bent Left Wrist) at the Top. No doubt the move could be helpful for some (especially Hookers) and disastrous for others (especially Slicers). It is the same move Ben Hogan described as his 'anti-hook' "secret" in a Life magazine article way back in 1955. Having recently visited with A.J. in Carlsbad, California, I can tell you that the 'cupped' Wrist is minimal in his own Stroke.

:-k If I understand it correctly, A.J.'s Magic Move is his interpetitation of the application of the third power accumulator (6-B-3-0). And is illustrated in photos 6-B-3-0#1 and #2.

But his first comment of cupping would wipe out all my progress since I attended your conference at St Augustine. My understanding of where the plane is, keeping the club on that plane and keeping a FLW is absolutely essential to my very straight although not tremendiously long shots.

Perhaps the implementation of the third accumulator is my next direction of study:read: . Comment on my ramblings, not my spelling???

Before I knew better

Before I learned more about TGM, I purchased AJ Bonars stuff. All of his DVDs focus on the same stuff he put in the article, essentially horizontal hinging is the key and drive down. Your time and energy is much better spent here learning all the facts rather than a part of the facts as seen by AJ.

I have steered folks away from his stuff ever since........steered most here and all that have made the journey here have been satisfied...
