The hitters right shoulder

While toying around with hitting on the weekend i discovered i may or may not have had the wrong idea. I had been really firing the right shoulder downplane toward the ball while firing the right arm. On the weekend however i tried a much more passive shoulder action and had immediate success. I know the shoulder should be used as a backstop to push against but thought it too had to be active. With the improvement i found on the weekend i now wonder if i had the wrong impression? I almost had the feeling that the right arm was straightening and the shoulder merely following more passively vs actively thrusting.

Could somebody please clear the fog?

Right Shoulder at impact

Look in a mirror at simulated impact. The shoulders should
be sightly back, not even or open. The normal result of
opening the shoulders to much is a blocked shot. Some good
pictures are found in the Hitters Section under the post
"Ted: Please post some more Daftfish."
