Club across the line at top of swing
I've struggled with the club crossing the line at the top of my backswing for several years. I think this contributes to me coming over the top and hitting the ball fat at times, which are flaws that I constantly struggle with.
What are some good techniques or swing thoughts that some of you have used to stop this in the past? Thanks for the help. |

I'd re-work your take-away and get a solid Top or End position. Ott can be fix ed afterwards. Down is the first move- DOWN, DOWN DOWN. Down on the incline plane, but there are two ways to go- From above with a flat turning shoulder or From below or underneath with a right shoulder moving Down toward the ball- not just OUT. If your hips turn your shoulders out as the first move- you're out of luck. The right shoulder needs to work like a side arm baseball pitcher, not a sledge Hammer driving rail road spikes. Train the Pivot to what the arms and Hands need to do. Hitting it fat - at least for me- means that your are not re-locating your left shoulder to low point. In other words- bump then turn the hips. Relocated those circles over a little more. It will do wonders for impact and driving through the ball to low point. |
From what I can tell from looking at some video, my right elbow lifts up at the top of backswing which forces the club up on a steep plane and across the line. I also straighten the right leg a little. From there, it appears that my club gets outside/over the plane on the downswing.
For the past few years, I have fought hitting the ball a little heavy, especially with the longer clubs. I believe this across the line position is causing me some problems with ball striking as the club appears to be coming down very steep into impact. |
