Rhythm - It's an Essential...But not an Imperative!!!

Friends,
I understand the concept.... anyone have some ideas on teaching it to the Average Joe. Each Hinge Action has a different amount of travel around the Hinge Pin... Horizontal the most....Vertical the least. Can someone elaborate on clubhead, hand, and shoulder travel for each?

Annikan,
Mechanical - Rhythm is holding all components of a rotating motion to the same RPM.
Golf - Holding both Lever Assemblies to the same basic RPM throughout the Stroke while overtaking all other components at a steady, even rate.
- Glossary,p .237

This means holding the club (secondary lever), and the entire left arm(primary lever) to the same RPM as the it swings in a concentric arc around the left shoulder....

Holding the #3 Accumulator to the same RPM as the " Blade" as it swings around the Hinge Pin....per selected Hinge action...Different Hinge Actions ....Different Travel .... Different Rhythm?...

We only have "Vertical Hinge Pins" that are mounted Vertical to the Associated Plane ....with the blade moving in a circle around the pin. at right angles to the pin, and vertical to its plane of rotation...(Yoda, Hinge Primer pp.1-13, The Golfing Machine Forum, 2002)....Yoda ...Truly a Hall of Fame Post in the History of all Golfdom!!!

Now....It be "Nice to" have some ...RHYTHM....Our Execution depends on it!!!

Play like a Champion Today!

Vader,
Where did you come from? ....

What do you mean "while overtaking all other components"...I thought you're supposed to Sustain the Lag!!!

Return to the "Dark Side" and stay there....Please!!!!

Vader (Annikan's alter ego),

Of course you sustain the lag at least until low point is reached. Release of lag is power loss! Rhythm is indispensable ...as you know, no part of the lever assembly can move forward independently. Darth's post above reflects Mr. Kelley's definition of rhythm as an in - line motion of the primary and secondary levers with respect to a hinge motion.

It would be nice to hear some thoughts on how to teach or learn it.

A Swinger's vs Hitter's Rhythm......

I know that my Rhythm has definitelly caused me to lose distance. Every so often I prove it to myself, of course at the wrong time.

I know that the following destroys my Rhythm
- Backstroke to fast for the rest of the stroke
- Hips to fast on the downstroke for the rest of the stroke

I know that I have to have a different Rhythm for hitting and swinging.

I have learned (thanks Yoda) to practice prior to the stroke the different Rhythms for hitting or swinging else I usually don't succeed if I have just done the other type prior.

I have found that using two golf clubs in a practice swing, slow to strat with and then build up has help me gain some rhythm.

BUT still I don't have Rhythm, at least that is good to optiminal cause my distance shows it.

I also can't carry a tune in a bucket.

Martee,
Thanks for your contribution....
I feel that most people when they refer to RHYTHM ... actually are referring to Tempo or Pace!!!!

PACE
Mechanical - The miles per hour (MPH) of a moving body

Golf - The surface speed of the orbiting Clubhead as differntiated from Rhythm.

RHYTHM

Mechanical - Holding all components of a rotating motion to the same basic RPM.

Golf - Holding both lever assemblies to the same basic RPM throughout the Stroke while "overtaking all other components at a steady , even rate."

It is my opinion that most people who don't have Rhythm actually are referring to "COORDINATION".... I can't dance either, but in all sports since the age of two I have "DEVELOPED" the knack of sustaing rhythm....Maintaining the same basic RPM of a rotating body...

My own golf stroke patterns have a Moderately Slow Tempo....with a steady and even Rhythm....I also can 'Hit" with a much faster Pace or Tempo and still maintain a steady and even RPM.

Having the ability to COORDINATE, SYNCHRONIZE,SEQUENCE, and SUSTAIN motion is the means by which you learn to develop maintaining the same basic RPM....It can be learned! However in my own opinion and experience it helps to learn this by developing these motor skills at an early age by participating in a variety of other sports, activities, and/or motor skills.

Most people work on Pace to find Rhythm....Why?

To slow down thw RPM's of the Club to match the RPM of the Turning Components to get back in Sync.

So ....Learn Rythym then learn to swing at a Higher Pace while sustaing Rhythm....Never swing faster than your ability to sustain Rhythm and the proper geometric relationships...

For example ....Don't drive the car faster than it was designed to go or you'll blow the engine!!!!

Where's the Tylenol!!!

A,

How about this? What destroys RHYTHM? Over acceleration? "Hit impluse?" Not enough DOWN?

Bucketgrease.

Well I am probably a little late on being able to take your advice in the first paragraph...

As to your suggested method of learning, that is what I was leaning too, I slow the backstroke down and slowlly work upward.

I think this RHYTHM discussion is important. Rhythm is an ESSENTIAL, so it is important. 6-B-3-O has good information on this topic. " The Turning Rate of the Pivot Components--especially the Shoulder Turn as actuated by Hip Action(7-15)--MUST be identical and synchronous with the #3 Accumulator Roll, else its Rhythm gets disrupted."

It was one of the five imperatives in the early editions!!
