Truly closed or relatively closed? 2-J-1

In 2-J-1, it states " Angled Hinging gives the Clubface a Slice producing uncentered motion so while the Clubface does 'Close' during impact, Clubface alignment is slightly 'Open' for short shots but for longer shots must be set up more and more 'Closed'"

Does that mean for say a driver the face should be closed to the impact plane line? Or since there is still some closing, it should be slightly open, but not as open as for horizontal hinging?

If you are truly hitting with an angled hinge as the clubs get longer, yes you will have to close the face due the plane line because angled hinge closed but lays back at the same time so you don't get a full close of a horizontal hinge.

Here's a for instance for you:

Jim Fuyrk uses an angled hinge and even though most tour players have their drivers square to even open, his are CLOSED 2-3* to compensate for the "layback."

I know this because one of the members on another board helped out in a tour van for a tournament and was handling his clubs and mentioned how closed they were at address.

For Angled Hinging, the Clubface is aligned Closed to the Plane Line. In earlier editions of TGM, Homer advocated a Square alignment -- as opposed to Horizontal Hinging's Open alignment -- thinking that would be sufficient of offset the Fade characteristic. But he came to believe otherwise -- "the tendency to Fade is still there" -- and later advised the Closed condition referenced in 2-J-1.

Could this be the reason why I consistently hit rockets with the driver dead straight but 10 yards right of my target?

Failure to Close the Clubface at Fix would result in a Fade or Slice, not a dead straight Shot ten yards right of Target.

Before getting too involved in a complicated 'Swing Overhaul', take this over-the-counter prescription from Dr. Yoda:

Locate the Ball a smidgeon further forward in your Stance.

Then call me in the morning. :D

Master Yoda:

Thank you for the simple Rx. I will give it a shot :D

That would explain why I can hit irons straight, but with my woods they'd be pure slices. Thanks.

At impact fix, maintaining that alignment i.e. flat left wrist and bent right wrist, I can only fold the elbow and bring that alignment at the top, however, the club face is closed at the top, and the feeling is not fanning the right arm, is this correct for driver when ball is tee up?

Before that, I have the same problem, clubface is open at impact for driver and 3 wood, my first guest is that due to fanning the forearm back, and due to the driver (long) it doesn't have enough time for the square up.

However, when I do the same thing with 3 iron with ball on the ground, it is difficult to hit the ball, I would guess the clubface is delofted too much.

Comments please.
