Backweighting
 

I am a clubmaker hobbyist and I like to tinker. Lately I have been working very hard in attaining all the instruction I could get in hitting vs swinging. My aim was always swingweighting to D3-D4, thinking that is what I needed was to feel the head in the swing. I took off all the lead tape and backweighted, added 25 grams to the butt, so far in the net it seems to really compliment the HIT. I need more time to see if it works and post the results. Anyone backweight woods and irons? Your results?

I haven't tried the woods and irons, but I back weighted my putter and love it.

What do you mean by Butt? Are you talking about weighting a club like in balance certified weighting in the handle?

Exactly, except that I made my own weights out of nuts and bolts in plastic dip. Keep in mind that I am experimenting so I may go lighter whichever will give the best results. So far it feels better than conventional swingweighting, we'll see.

Backweighting
 

I ended up adding just 5 grams of weight to the butt of my clubs. What this did is move the balance point up the shaft by 3/8". So far it is perfect espacially in my woods and I can really fire through the ball. As a clubmaker on another forum said about this is that with the backweight the swingweight scale is tricked by adding weight to the head to get the swingweight up adding mass to the head creating what he calls a "hammer". So far I like it.

Counter balancing or Swing Weighting? Both have their fans. But if you add weight then both add to the clubs TOTAL weight. If you have a feather in your hand its hard to control. CB or SW are methods to change the feel of the club. Either way can work.

I'm trying this concept. I have a 400cc driver on a very light (55 gram) shaft. I hit it pretty good, but it feels too light. Tonight I blew off the grip and added a 1/4 x 2 1/2 inch carriage bolt with 10 nuts and 1 lock washer (about 30 grams)into the butt end and blew the grip back on. I went right out and hit 3 very good drives. I can't wait to play tomorrow. Seems like it might help reduce throw away!
