Extensor Action Question

In the video done with one of your students, just prior to the start of the swing you check your extensor action. What is the feel you are trying to get at this point before the swing begins?

Hi dt, and welcome to our site.

You've asked a good question, because Extensor Action is indeed the last thing I Feel before Start Up. Over time, it actually has become my Start Up Trigger. What I Feel is the Push of the heel of my Right Hand against my Left Hand thumb. This stretches -- but, per 6-B-1-D -- does not move the Left Arm. I then take that Stretched Feel to the Top, maintain it through the Start Down and then Drive it though the Ball to the Finish of the Stroke.

After years of training in the 24 Components, the Three Zones and the precision alignments of the Mechanical Checklist of 12-3-0, this is the essence of my Action:

1. I apply Extensor Action at Address.

2. I take it to the Top.

3. I Drive it through the Ball.

Simple as that!

Extensor Action is a vital concept, and I will soon put up a video that will show you how to learn and apply it. It is yet another cornerstone of TGM Training that remains undiscovered in the world of conventional Golf Instruction.

Great post Lynn, you just cleared some fog on a question i was going to post today! A vid would be good for sure, just to reassure things. Only just yesty i was experimenting with this action. A very interesting concept. I also finally have my book so am heavily into it at present and will have a few questions on the way.

Congrats to you and your comrades on your new site, so far it looks superb. Your knowledge of Homer and his principles surely knows no bounds and i am sure your foray into deeper waters will be a resounding success. You deserve it :)

Now, that is a question I've had for 2 months, but wasn't sure how to phrase it.

Thanks for the answer. Printed it out, and may just tape it to my wall!

Yoda,

You are describing a compromised version of extensor action using PP #1, which gives only the straight left arm and not the other half, which is a pulling on the shaft that you get by using PP #3. As Homer says in 6-B-1-D concerning using PP #3 to effect extensor action, "...improperly executed, it can cause Clubhead Throwaway. In which case, use only the #1 Pressure Point and pull on the left thumb to then hold at least the Left Arm in-line and retain Power Package structural rigidity."
