I know many people probably already know this trick but maybe it can help someone incubate an idea into use. It helped me, anyway.
I was still working on little chips with a 7 iron and then pitches and then punches, finally working up to a full swing.
I could get the steady click noise of solid shot and was looking to make sure divots were after the ball but I could only hit maybe 2 or 3 in a row then mess one up and have to start over.
I tried to hit little chips with just my left hand. For those of you who've tried this, you know it's virtually impossible to do consistently without lightening up on grip pressure some and hitting down on ball with FLW. Couldn't do it. So I tried just right hand, again almost impossible without lighter grip and bent right wrist. couldn't do it.
Then I remembered the part in the book about doing drills with eyes closed to get mind off results and onto hands. I took club in just left hand, closed my eyes, took club back and brought it down towards ball. I did this twice before every shot just like it was a waggle. On the first time back I concentrated on feeling the club in my hands, and on second time back I concentrated on if I could feel the clubhead (more specifically the sweetspot) in my hands. After the two eyes closed new waggles, I could strike down with a chip virtually every time. Same thing with right hand. Of course, when I had two hands it was even easier. Same technique up to pitches and then punch shots.
Sorry for length, just wanted to share. This eyes closed drill by HK has turned hitting down with correct wrist alignments from something ridiculously hard to something simple.
