Flick/Hogan
What do you guys think about Jim Flicks article in golf digest. It refers to Hogan telling Gardner Dickinson "to think of swinging around the left leg on iron shots and around the right leg for the driver and fairway woods".I know there is a difference between "thinking" of doing something and what you actually "do"but IMHO there could be a lot of reverse pivots out there next weekend!

That's Flicked up!!
Sounds like a typical Jim Flick comment. Even from instructors that I don't think too much of, I can still see the wisdom in at least part of their comments. Except Flick, whom I've never heard anything good that hadn't already been done by every instructor out there. Occassionally, he will come up with a real gem like "keep your left arm straight."

I don't know him personally but I talked to a guy who was on the tour for many years during the 60's and 70's who said Jim Flick was a joke. He basically was the only one would kiss up to Nicklaus (called Carnac on tour because he knew everything about everything and told everyone he did)and so he got to ride Jack's coat tails and everyone associated them together. His real claim to fame is that he was friend to the greatest player of all time. I'm not certain but I think the guy told me that Flick didn't even make his own high school team.

Sorry for the long post but there is so much bad info. out there and although it frustrates most of the instructors (which is what a large majority of posters on this site are), it absolutely infuriates a mid-handicapper like myself who has tried stupid crap like this only to learn that it's the exact opposite of what I should be doing. Any instructor wondering why people who have the money to take lessons and desire to get better don't take lessons? It's because of idiots like Flick giving out so much wrong information that eventually regualar players can't tell the truth from the lies and just say "the heck with it, I'll just play the way I am and have as much fun as I can" or either just try to figure things out on their own.

Flicked up
Rob, couldn't agree more,I didn't know he was that close to Jack.It makes it worse when (like Leadbetter)people quote Hogan who ,Great as he was, perhaps influences people more than the instructors who quote his "method".

I'm no Flick fan per-se....but how bad of a comment is that? Might make more ppl hit up on their drivers....but it's not that bad. IMO anyway......although some commentary on the tip by Flick would be good....you don't just do things for the sake of doing them (even IF Hogan did it.....and that's IF).

Birdie man,I was thinking more of the turning round the left leg for iron shots(right handers). What are your thoughts on that?

That's kinda sketchy actually....

Maybe if you had your weight favouring the left leg a tad....would make for a very descending, crisp shot.....good for crisp irons.

... Now that I think about it though, you don't really turn around your left leg...

And a lot of ppl would prolly go to town with that cause Hogan (may have) said he did that.....and if he did say it, it's a feel description anyway.

Ya ur prolly right.
