Butt of the putter: Keeping it pointed at mid section?
Question is in the context of swinging.
When I putt the whole putter tends to move back and I tend to flip at it to get back to the ball. When I concentrate on trying to keep the butt end of the putter still and pointing at my mid section thru the whole stroke, the flip is gone and the stroke is "lighter."
The problem is that I do not know how to keep the butt pointing consistently at my mid section. When I do it, it feels like the putter has to come up off the ground more and my left hand rolls under. This roll under feels like I am closong the puttter and not sure if correct. It also feels like I have to bend my wrists.
Am I correct in trying to keep the butt pointing at my mid section and, if so, am I going about it correctly? Any other thoughts appreciated.
BTW, I have the Putting Arc so using this as a guide would be great as well. Thanks!

I would not TRY to keep the handle of the putter anywhere. Remember it is easier for the hands to move to a place rather than stay in a place. The mere thought of keeping the handle steady is throw-away. Your words convey the "steering" that you are going through. And the only thing you are suffering from is a bent plane line.

Do two things. Find a bench and move the shaft of your putter along the bench. Don't worry about where the handle is. Just move the putter back and through. Next hit putts with with two pennies two inches behind the ball. Don't hit the pennies. This will stop the throw-away of the club.

Drill
Mike Adams gave my a practice drill similar to the VJ mentions.

Stack 3 dimes a putter head length behind the ball. Pick off the top dime on the backstroke and do not hit either of the 2 dimes on the forward motion.
