For maximum driving distance the new data advises hitting up on the ball requiring extra axis tilt. As to creating axis tilt just lean back and hit up - left bends and the heads stays back with the reverse "C" look as Bubba does.
The knee angle and the sideways motions of the hips creates hip tilt. If you move your hips back and straighten your right knee, your hips will tilt forward. Etc.
I guess stack and tilt prescribes a lot of hip tilt.
It looks to me that one of the biggest hip tilters on the tour is Bubba W. The way he leans into the shot is quite telling. Bubba reinforces my impression that hip tilting is very powerful if done right.
The more you tilt your hips, the more you can hit the ball with the feet. Add some side bending in the spine, and you can really whip your spine and your shoulders with your feet. If you could do this in unlimited quantities I guess you could have created an on-plane thrust with your feet, and you would be needing less shoulder turn to strike the ball well. On the other hand, if you keep your hips level the work that your feet can put into the stroke is more limited.
Personally I have a bit mixed feelings about a lot of hip tilting. I do not feel well balanced well balanced throughout the stroke when I do it. But sometimes while I play I do it anyway, because I get a visual image of a takeaway that starts with tilting the club back.
