If your young and want to get on tour these days you need:
1/ a top top coach, such as lynn blake, leadbetter, harmon, or some other really experienced coach
2/ equipment as good as what the tour pros get, perfectly fitted drivers, irons, wedges
3/ Parents with lots of money
4/ You ahve to know the right people
(obviously you need the talent, but if you havent got parents who will support you and spend £500 an hour for a lesson with a pga tour standerd coach and will spend money on getting your equipment perfectly fitted i dont think you have much chance)

Agree?
I think so, and its all MONEY!
Well that helps, but you have to belive you can win too.
Become relaxed in a tournament situation, or you can overdose on the game.
I dont know any junior who ive spoken to who works harder on there golf as I do, but ive got to a point where im not improveing. Its because I havent got a coach and I dont know what to work on next, ive hit a brick wall and I dont know where to go next. I cant afford top coaches, ive got good equipment but my irons x18 irons where custom fitted a year ago and now i am 16 and grown about 3 inches since then and this is bound to effect my golf game!
Any advice on where to go next? If I just keep playing like I am im just going to be hitting my head agaisnt this brick wall and im not going to get anywhere. Like Jim said in my other thread I started on golf machine basics I have been on LOTS of golf forums, I do enjoy learning about the swing and stuff and yes my head is full of alot of swing techniques and i am starting to try and put them into my game by myself and its messing my game up.
Suppose thats what I will have to do! Not the bestest driver of the golf ball but my irons are pretty good, if I cant get a coach im going to have to get my short game so so good that it can make me shoot under par!

Your short game needs to be "off the charts" even if you do get a coach! There is an academy near here that has one of the finest junior programs in the area with kids that have gone on to do great things in AJGA events, college and profesionally. The emphasis they place on short game work there is hard to imagine (especially for those of us that prefer to work on the full swing). I assure you they know what they're doing.
You understand the hinges so you're well on your way. I can still see John Reigger using a basic motion and absolutely creating a pile of balls about 30 yards out. Yoda does the same thing in his video out of the bunker (Lynn of Arabia). Those basic and acquired motions CAN be understood thru the use of the book and this website.
Hey dana in your work with the number 2 junior in the country, how many of those five things did he have.
Well Im in calif,so a tough area to be great in.
So really he was in the top five in all areas. Now hes not a junior.
However he played fourdays a week and played in everything even if he did not have the money. You may have a better chance to make it further on your own dream to be great. Many familys don't raise champ's with out the passion.
Club companys will give you balls and clubs.Even if they say they don't they do.

You forgot completely about a fitness regime also.
Your machine will only be as good as your body allows it to be.
Strength, Flexability and Stamina....
Extremely important !
This includes weight training, cardiovascular training, stretching, diet (I don't care if your skinny - you still need one to maintain energy levels for four rounds) ...etc. Even simple stuff like skipping can improve your balance.... The more athletic you become, the better your technique will be and so will your ability to think clearly and execute time after time and the further you will hit the ball and the more innate good golf will become....
You very much need a holistic approach to playing golf - neglect an aspect such as this and you will never reach your full potential.

Talent, talent, talent. If you lack any of the three it will be a tough road.
1- you need to be the best putter in the state you live.
2- Win your state amateur every year.
3- realize that even emerging young golfers are in their late twenties.
4- get lots of money or get a scholarship to a A1 college and get a free coach for four years.
