Lagster,

Thanks for the question. Actually most of the video's we produce are 2000 to 4000 shutter speed and higher. The trick is keeping the file size low for internet distribution. We could probably post short, 5 second swings in AVI format that would be somewhere in the neighborhood of 6 to 10MB. But for long video's, we would be talking Gigabytes of file size. The average 1 hour AVI video that I edit uses around 20G of hard disk space. Once I start editing and creating short clips, I quickly consume another 10G. That's just one video.

So I have to use compression formats on streaming movies. The most common is Microsoft Media Player formats and another is Apple Quicktime. These are highly compressed video formats. More compression means lower overall quality. For the internet; quality and file size are directly related.

Longer movies are almost always done with streaming video. In this case I have to make another quality vs. file size decision. Most of our members are probably on DSL or Cable but there are some that use dial up. To meet the needs of dial up customers, the streaming video must be kept smaller and more compressed due to the slower connection speed. Otherwise the video will not play reliably.

We have plans to provide higher quality content once we get the premium site going. That would include larger, high quality videos that you will need to download first.
