The 7th Edition of The Golfing Machine

I remember hearing some talk of a new edition. Is it coming out soon? Which edition would this be? I see in my book the last date is 1982.
Will "Homers Notes" be included?

Thanx mp

Hans,

Love the new pix. Cool! Now all will know why '6bee1dee' has always beenHans Solo to me!

Regarding your question, the new edition would be No. 7 and would definitelyinclude all Homer's personal revisions. Beyond that, it will likely includecertain additional features, e.g., a biograhphical sketch of the author, ahistory of the work itself and those involved, and a much more complete Index.

Homer left 96 (ninety-six!) pages of hand-written revisions, each carefullyworded and with instruction as to where and precisely how the revision was tobe applied. In fact, one of the two initial stumbling blocks to producing atyped set of those notes was figuring out how his editorial system related toThe Book itself. That done, the other problem reared its head; namely, readinghis handwriting!

Much of the revision concerns general 'housekeeping' items, e.g., capitalizethis or that; change this typeface; or use this word instead of that one. Also, the occasional printing error has been corrected, e.g., in the Flying Wedgemechanical definition in The Glossary, the push-pull hydraulic excavators arelocated 90 degrees to each other, not 98 degrees. [You might wantto go ahead and make that correction in your 6th edition now. It will be niceto have the new 90 degree alignment of the push-pull rams finally match yourlong-standing 90 degree alignment of your Left Arm and Right Forearm FlyingWedges!]

A few paragraphs have been dropped and others have been totally rewritten, sometimes only for clarity, but most often to better integrate the variousconcepts and ideas that are The Golfing Machine. And some new paragraphshave been added. For example, on page 38, a new paragraph 3:

"Power Package Muscle Power is almost entirely Right Triceps Thrust straighteningthe Right Elbow to furnish both Extensor Action and #1 Accumulator Power."

[Bold type above is Yoda's. This specific term, though commonly used by Homerin both his personal instruction and written commentary --could not be found inthe 6th edition and thus became the subject of a recent Forum debate.]

There are no real 'bombshells.' The demotion of Hooding from a 'Motion' to a'Position' is about as big as it gets in that department (see my February 16thpost on the Hinge Action Primer thread / Hooding As A Position, Not AMotion for my thoughts on that one). Nevertheless, the numerousfine-tunings contribute much. Collectively, they more than justify the 7thedition that Homer had proclaimed was imminent and that would be the last.Unfortunately, his untimely death on Valentine's Day 1983 has resulted in a21-year delay to date.

The new owners of The Golfing Machine have been working steadily overthe past year to lay the groundwork for future progress. And they have told methat publishing the 7th edition is a priority. Beyond that, I am sure thatForum readers would welcome any information as to a realistic publication date.
