I have been on the driving range with the LPGA all week (12 hour days)...if you don't know much about Michelle Wie...Wow....watch the broadcast today and/or tomorrow...your in for a treat if they televise her driver swing.....she looks like a cross between Jack and Tiger and she has a classic finish like Hogan. David Leadbetter was on the driving range coaching her Tuesday and Wednesday.
Wow, 2nd place yesterday! And tomorrow she's here in the Pittsburgh area attempting to qualify for the US Public Links against the men. Maybe I should suddenly become sick and cancel the office---in fact, I'm feeling more ill as I continue to write. Hmmmmm........... Dave
Wie outdrove the entire field by, literally, miles. On Tuesday, she drove by me in the Bulle Rock compound at least 6 times during the course of the day. You're 15, with a learner's permit. What are you going to do when you don't have a club in your hands?
Seriously. On Friday, Wie even admitted she was baffled by the greens. She got better on Saturday, and was really canning them on Sunday. She appears to be a quick study.
Bulle Rock sets up scarily to the player's eye and has a number of sucker temptations. Wie picked (or was helped to pick) her spots well and stuck to them.
There's reason to believe the game between her ears is up to her swing.
Well, she did it. Michelle tied for 1st in the local US Amateur Public Links qualifier here(top 2 out of 84 go to the championship) and she's 1 step closer to the Masters! However, I suspect the competition will be a little more intense at the next level. Interesting........ Dr Dave
