Help! Recently, my ballstriking has felt terrible. Nothing feels solid, even though I am striking down on the ball with my hands ahead (I have seen it on video and divots are after the ball). The ball flies OK but it feels like a slap. The ball does not explode off the clubface and it is far from effortless feeling. The only thing I can think of is that maybe the face isn't closing enough through and after impact. Could also be that I am not hitting the sweetspot. Usually I hit it toward the heel. Any ideas? I am (frustrated) swinger. Thanks.
Thanks for the response. I think you may be right- my divots are deep and I have difficulty hitting any draw, not just a high one. When I try a low fade, the ball does zing- I am not sure what you mean there, but that shot seems to be my miss. Any ideas for curing the steepness? It might be the path, since I tend to get a bit over the top sometimes.
The only thing I have changed is getting the club to the end and not the top. That little extra move might be causing some throwaway- I will have to look. However, on video my impact conditions look good. One thing I did notice is that I have a single shift in my plane- before I had the classic double shift. To me it looks steep, but it the downswing is right on the turned shoulder plane. Anyway, thanks for the help.
Sounds like a steep outside in over the top move, but with alignments that allow you to be closer to no throw away.
As always, check impact fix. Ensure that you are balanced and are 'supporting' impact from the 'back' side of the shaft (see the Doyle clips).
Your head is probably moving forward, either starting at address with it too forward, or moving it forward as you start down, a lunge move.
That head movement is potentially from a reverse pivot, getting to steep with your shoulder turn. Hard to say for sure without seeing your motion.
As an drill to learn to be more 'level' with your weight/pressure shifts back and through, the 'step through' drill is a great one (think Gary Player). Getting 'behind' the ball, even letting that left foot come off the ground to do it, will really help you. The feeling of hitting the ball with the back of the left shoulder should get you drawing the ball.
Also, hitting chip shots with your feet together and the ball off your right toes would be helpful for you, keeping your weight left and 'minimizing un-needed movement' - just feeling the entire shaft 'swing' with downward compression.
