Saw a program on the golf channel the other night about Kenny Perry. He was doing a demonstration and discussing how he drives with the right side and really "hits" the ball as opposed to a fluid swing. I thought it was very interesting, especially considering how far he hits the ball and the common believe out there is that you have to swing to hit the ball far. I believe he averaged 323 off the tee last week at the Colonial.
Also many thanks to Yoda'sluke for his comments about Rhythm. I think that's been a huge problem for me as I have a tendency to get to quick with the body and don't let the right forearm pass. I don't have the problem going right, "luckily" for me, I'm quick enough to flip my hands and snaphook left. Lynn and Yodasluke, keep up the good work...
Take that driving distance with a grain of salt.....the temps were really high and the humidity was way up there. So between the high humidity and the ROCK HARD fairways people were getting them out there REALLY LONG.
When David Toms is AVERAGING 306 yards for the tournament, you know the fairways are RUNNING!
BTW i'm not taking anything away from Perry because he really is one o the longer hitters on tour, not many people realize it, but he isn't THAT long. I remember one hole that was 430 yards and he hit a 2 iron that left him 122 yards out! Talk about some roll....LOL
If you want a comparison, he did keep up with VJ and his distances at the last tournament he won. There were many shots of him from the blimp and his ball was ending up right by VJ's and the course was soaked so not much roll. So he is long.

Point taken Jim, everyone's driving distance gets increased in Texas, but as you state, even with that Kenny is one of the longest hitters on tour. Right now he's sixth in driving distance, only four yards behind Tiger. Not bad for a 40 year old guy... The point I was trying to make was that Kenny is one of the longest guys on tour and he's a hitter not a swinger.
