Mac O'Grady :left arm parallel to the ground on backswing
Hello all,

Several people have mentioned in their posts that Mac says that when the left arm is parallel to the ground on the backswing, then it should be pointing 45 degrees to the right of the target.

OK. But how about on the downswing, when the left arm is again parallel to the ground? Where should it be pointing according to Mac and according to TGM swinging?

Thanks,

Sounds like Position Golf (Preface) to me! Why 45 degrees? Positions facilitate things but guarantee nothing- unless you know the relations they are supposed to facilitate.

TGM says you want the club to be On Plane throughout your Stroke. Study 2-F.

No offense to either side of the coin but there is a lot of TGM in MORAD and than some. I think Mac is being honest in his drive to go another step with TGM. I am not saying he is right or wrong but is worth learning from. What you do with the info is up to you.

Homer said you can be on any Plane you want to be- I'm sure a 45 degree left arm position is some Plane or another.

On a tape I have, Homer says that he is not 'anti position' golf but he is 'anti FIXED position' Golf. I don't know if MORAD is more one or the other but even in G.O.L.F. we need to position ourselves at one time or another.

Annikan,
Thanks for the J. Mudd sequence.

I've been going through your posts on this forum, and they have been very helpful.

To me, that looks deep behind the body.
I'd be afraid that I'd lift too much from this "position." The left arm is farther behind the body at this stage than the way I was taught by my range professional many years ago. Maybe he taught it to me a different way because I was not a low handicapper.
I guess you're familiar with the visualization that at this point the hands are in the middle of the chest (taught by the Leadbetter instructors I've seen on TV).

On the downswing, with the J. Mudd pic, when the left arm is parallel to the ground, it looks like the left arm is also parallel to the target line. Is this the standard position?

Thanks for the help,
