Feeling the Right Elbow Leading
This question may have been answered already and if it has I'm sorry. But I want to make sure I'm feeling the correct thing. I've been a Swinger my whole golfing life (38 years). I'm now trying to learn how to Hit. I've been working with dowels and the impact bag. Last time at the dome I was getting good compression, sound, and ball flight when it felt I was leading the downswing with my right elbow. (I'm a right handed golfer). Should this be one of the prime feelings I have when I Hit?

Hitting or swinging I personally find a focus on the right elbow a very good key. The feel of leading with the right elbow and hitting the ball with your 'entire' right forearm and 'down' through with the heel of the right hand. Don't overdo it though. In setup, and as a swing trigger, I 'kick in' my right knee and right elbow to preset this feel. Watch Gary Player for an example of this move.

Basic Stuff Becomes Emergency Stuff
Tradekid PMed me with his problem, and I told him it was better posted in the Hitter's ER. Here's what followed:

Okay, Tradekid, so this really is an Emergency! Cool!
Here's your Feel:
Hit the Ball with both Pressure Points #1 and #3. Pressure Point #1 will Lead and #3 will Lag.
You no longer have a Golf Club.
You have only the Pressure Points in your Hands.
And you are going to Hit That Ball with those Pressure Points!

more on the leading right elbow feel
when I try to swing I like the feel of leading right elbow, like im going into a pitch position.
when I try to hit I like the feel of a lagging right elbow, like im going into a punch position.
does it sound like I may actually be doing what I think i'm doing?

This post should be glued to every hitters forehead.
There is no better feel than #1 pressure point leading and #3 accepting.

Read this over and over and over and over until it sinks in.
It is the essence of FEEL and Rhythm.
It is through feeling the pressure points in your hands that you can harness and apply true efficient force - the 'heavy' smooth leverage of lag.

I have to scream the same thing that Yoda stated! You must strike the ball with the pressure points. #1 drives (direct drive), #3 recieves (indirect drive).
You can't get lost in the subtle difference between 10-3-A and 10-3-B, until you really feel the lag pressure. The body will do amazing things and will make subtle changes without any concious thought.
How often would you think of the position of your wrist, elbow, or knee when asked to throw a ball to first base? Your body simply creates pressure against the back side of the ball in the most efficient manner that it had done before.

Where does the pressure on the elbow come into play? I have read this on GEA as well as on this forum. Is this perhaps the result of hyper extending the elbow in an effort to utilize the pressure points in our hands?

Are you asking about pressure in the left or right elbow??
