left wrist cock vs right wrist
First off, Lynn that's a great video of the flying wedges...

I have a question about the cocking if the left writst. When I grip the club with 2 hands, if I cock the left wrist, my right wrist goes with it in the same direction. I don't see how the left wrist can cock and uncock and not have the right wrist follow suit.

So, to maintain the right forearm flying wedge, should I focus on not cocking the left wrist at all? A few months back when I had a lesson with Ted Fort, he said, for me, it needs to feel like I am lifting that club up there with little or no action of the wrists.

Thoughts?

You asked the same question I asked myself when 8 months ago when I began the quest.

The answer lies in the last paragraph of 7-3 on page 93. Now, if you were like me, after reading that paragraph you'll be thinking 'huh?'

Lets reiterate:
From Start Up to Follow Through (both arms straight), the Left Wrist is always Flat and the Right Wrist is Always Level (not Cocked). If you do that, then your Flying Wedges Assembly will be maintained.

Now how do you Cock your Left Wrist while keeping your Right Wrist Level?

You do that my moving your Right Forearm up and down while keeping your Right Wrist Level.

Practice this without a club first. This is a must. So do the following.
Get your Right Forearm in front of you parallel to the ground and your Elbow at your side.
Have your wrist Level (look at 4-B-1) so that the wrist bone and the edge of the hand form a straight line.
If your fingers are extended, they should be pointing down, not straight ahead. That's Level.
Now freezing your Right Wrist, move your forearm straight up and down by bending your Elbow.

Now do the above without a club, but with your left hand also. So pretend you're gripping club and repeat the above. Your Left Wrist should Cock and Uncock as you move your Forearm up and down while your Right Wrist remains Level! That's basically what 7-3 -- The Magic of the Right Forearm -- is about.

Now do it with a Club while monitoring your Right Wrist all the way. Feel that it's Frozen in its Level condition.

Hope this helps.

Hi Erik,

Thanks for the comments on the video. We're going to do a lot more of this kind of thing, so stay tuned!

Regarding your perceived inability to Cock your Left Wrist while maintaining the Bent Right, do the following drill:

[See, this would make a great video short!]

Grip the Golf Club, then separate your Hands about six to twelve inches. Open the Right Hand but leave the Clubshaft laying across the fingers of the Hand. Now, without changing the Frozen Bent and Level Right Wrist, Cock the Right Elbow up and watch as it Cocks the Left Wrist. Then, use your straightening Right Elbow -- again, there will be no change in the Bent and Level Right Wrist Condition -- to Uncock the Left Wrist.

And there you have it.

Precisely the same action occurs in a geometrically-correct Golf Stroke.

I absolutely love this advice. I know that I among many was dubious of the Right Wrist frozen in it's Level condition and the Left Wrist Cocking at the same time. I thought there's no way this can be possible. Do this drill as Dr. Collards has prescribed and you would SEE IT FOR YOURSELF THAT IT IS POSSIBLE. It's not only possible but it's geometrically and structurally correct.

In addition to the above. Try hitting chips shots with this split grip. Even though the hands are split you can see how the Flying Wedges function in relation to each other.

Also split the grip take your swing to Top and then slide the hands together. You can see the proper Wrist Conditions with your normal grip.

But it prohibits the physics available for the most lag in a pure CF swing.

Cocking the right wrist just adds another compensation to the swing as it takes the club of the plane line.

Geometry leads physics.

.................................................. ..............

MJ... do you think with guys like Daly, Mickelson, Don January... Bobby Jones, that centrifugal force, and maybe the "reverse rotation" causes the wrists to seek proper IMPACT conditions if unhindered?

Do you think perhaps a more PRECISION type of golf could be produced by using the FLV/BLV CONDITIONS?

Yes, CF, if allowed, takes care of the proper alignments through impact.

And, yes, more precision is possible, but at the expense of constraints on the PHYSICS for the most powerful pure Swing.

The OILY-WRISTED freeswingers you mentioned don't use a FROZEN level right wrist.

Joe,

I know that you are not a fan of the Hands Controlled Pivot and the frozen Level Right Wrist. I have a great respect for your knowledge and opinions.

How do you teach a player to have more Lag? What type of drills concepts etc?

Thanks man!
