I can hit the fairwood fairly good, straight with 5 wood around 200 yards, just pick up with right forearm and hit down. With the iron, 50% of the shots I can feel that my club is too layback. A single handicap friend told me that I need more roll on the iron, as the iron sweet spot is higher than the wood.
With the driver, can hit fairly straight, sometime on the toe with pushing shot, but the distance is only 240 yards, very low and no rolling after the ball lands. Any obvious reasons, faults and ways to fix? Too flat backswing for iron? etc..
To summarize:
Driver: accuarcy fair good, bad shots is the toe shots, pushing to the right, distance is my problem: 230-240 yards, low shots with no rolling.
Woods: with ball on the ground, hit very well.
Irons: clubface layback at impact, sometimes hit behind.

Thanks in advance.
Something that I'd check immediately is ball position. The ball moves back and up plane for the irons. You may be bobbing and the bobbing could be a compensatory move for a poor ball position or a lack of extensor action. There's no certainty unless I see it. The reason for my statements is that you say the woods are being hit well when on the ground. Most that have problems hitting down have the same problem with all clubs, but you're only having problems with the irons. The plane could be a problem if it's being bent.
I have a question for anyone out there: Are hitters more likely to have a problem hitting woods (fairway/driver)?
I find no difficulty in hitting any club versus the others. I love smashing that little ball with anything you put in my hands. Sometimes the driver is a little more fun because the ball goes so far. When the machine is trained to do it's job, the club makes no difference.
Thanks Ted. You might be right, I have been streching my head to find out why and have been trial and error many things. Yesterday, I make a better impact fix address position with the 7 iron ( hands forward of the ball, ball seems to be backward a bit) and eliminate the lay back hit with clubface more close at impact. What is your comment on driver, why is it so low and no roll? I am improving everyday and strange enough a week before I still hitting very high shot still with no roll, now hitting low shot (straight) but no roll too.

I certainly yield to Ted. But let me throw my .02 in because it may relate to you in some way.
Be very certain of your Angle of Attack. As 6bmike told me when I mentioned my problem, "Hit down without reservation or remorse". I couldn't hit my middle irons any where near as well as my driver-3wd and short irons.
Hitting the short irons was easily explainable because that is how far my swing(Hit) had progresed. I usually use more of a Basic or Acquired Motion from 120 yards to greenside.
It was when I added in the full pivot that things fell apart. ( I betcha 15 minutes with an AI and I could have it straightened out, #$%&).
But that didn't explain the driver-3wd. Video showed me that I was "sweeping" them more than I thought. You can get OK results doing that with the longer shafted clubs, not maximum though. But not driving fully, down, through, and out with a mid iron is deadly.
Two great videos..... just to make sure.
1) the video clip of Homer Kelley. That is Down.
2) "Hitters Row" - with Ted and Lynn. Just a face-on TREMENDOUS video for the Swing and Hit. Notice how quickly Ted goes up the Plane (not fast tempo, that's something different) compared to Lynn. Lynn is almost waist high in the Backstroke (fully tracing the BaseLine for his Swing) before Ted starts back. Yet they get to Top at the same time. Look at Ted's position at Top, everthing about his body says Down. "as the club goes up, so shall it come down".
There is a wealth of knowlege for us neophytes in that video... Suffice to say for now, just be absolutely positively sure you are Hitting down and it is steep enough. It has proven to me, to be the most important vector.
Your quantum field contains all possibilities, you must choose the LBG/TGM one. (Sorry, I had to throw that in)
