I believe you are supposed to apply angled hinging when hitting correct? Does that happen on it's own or do you have to make it happen? If I'm hitting the ball left, could I be hitting but using horizontal hinging? I'm pretty new to TGM but I'm trying to learn. Thanks

The uncompensated hinge action for hitting is angled hinging. It should happen if you keep driving that right arm. And, yes you could get it going left with horizontal hinging.

Hi Curtis,
If you are hitting and then using horizontal hinging, then
you are using Special Wrist Action per 10-18-F where "Single Wrist Backstroke is given a Standard Wrist Action Downstroke."
Per 6-B-3-0: "With true Throw-Out Action (no manual Clubface manipulation), Centrifugal Force automatically aligns the Clubshaft and Clubface for Horizontal Hinging (10-10-D regardless of the Grip being used."
So contrary to what you think you are doing (i.e. hitting using horizontal hinging), it may well be that you are loading as a hitter (Angled Hinge at the Top) and coming down as a Swinger.

-I think you nailed it there. It's easy for me to take it back as a hitter but coming down is a different story. Any drills for the downswing to ingrain the feel of an angled hinge?

Go to both arms straight and look at the left hand. Make sure it's perpendicular to the angled plane. A visual check is the clubface 45 degrees across the line. I would sit in that position for about 10 seconds. Then, return to address and hit a ball. Keep monitoring the left hand to see if it's cooperating. A little Basic Motion is good to practice.

It may also be the case that you are not cross line 'feel' with your motion.
Do some split grip drills focusing on the right arm extending 'out to right field' a bit. Just hip high to hip high will be enough for you to feel that you now have the 'room' to extend your right arm.
