300 Yards in 60 Seconds - True Story
This past evening, I was hitting my beloved 983K after 3 weeks of not seeing her.

I was enjoying the feeling of the ball being hit in the longitudinal center of gravity of the club and watching it sail over the 4 story high boundary fence 270 yards away.

I notice an elderly man watching.

I smile, and then verified my balance, grip and plane line before rifling another one toward the horizon.

Elderly Man: "You are killing it, can I have an hour's lesson?"

Comdpa: "Sure...[interview him and explain to him that improvement is a journey, imperatives, blah blah]"

C: "Lets see you chip"
C: "Then lets see you pitch"

EM: "Hey this stuff is boring...I just want to learn how to hit it far. Can we do it faster?" - in a tone that showed his support for all things instantized.

I pause considering the arsenal of drills I had at my disposal and said..."I will teach you how to get a 300 yard drive in 60 seconds."

EM: ~eyes light up~

C: in a very calm voice.. "The next time you get up on the tee, I want you to be very nice and relaxed...you gotta keep those forearms and wrists nice and loose.

The most important part of 300 yard drives, is that no one ever pays attention to the knees. You gotta keep them supple for the flexion action.

Let your playing partners tee off first, so that they don't get in the way of your 300 yard drive.

Take your Titleist Pro V1, or whatever you prefer to use, and hop into your buggy, slam the accelerator with your knee powered feet then drive it exactly 300 yards down the fairway as the GPS in the buggy indicates.

300 yards down the pipe in 60 seconds and oh yes, place the ball down by the buggy too."

E.M: ~incredulous~ then bursts out in laughter.
"Sorry sorry, I know I am very impatient."

Long story short, the lesson went well from then, we even had him hitting a personal best with the 9 iron. He thanked me for the lesson and said he would bring his daughter and wife for lessons in future. Time will tell.

Looking back, I realise that sometimes, a little humor can get across to the student the issues at hand as pertains to the golf swing.

Do you guys have similiar stories to share?

Yep,
I had an older gentleman that took lessons from me here in Atlanta. I was invited to his 80th birthday party, that was at one of the finest clubs here in Atlanta. They had hired professional dancers in poodle skirts, an entire brass band, professional singers, and had the best food you can imagine. So lacking in money he was not.

He saw me hit a drive before our lesson one day and he said, "Ted, if you can get me to hit it that far, I'll give you $100,000." Since he's worth about 100 million, I thought he might be serious. But, I too had to ground him in reality.

I told him, "Perry, if you swing at it with everything you've got and turn around and walk 200 yards in the other direction, you will have a 300 yard drive." He called me a few, choice words that need not be repeated. Then we got started with the lesson.
