Building Trust in Your Swing
By Dave Baron
Trust is earned. No doubt about it. But building trust in your technique is much easier if you understand two facts. First is the fact that the brain takes three-quarters needs three quarters of one second to sufficiently command the body to do something. The second is that if you start in perfect position and leave well enough alone, nothing will change.
The brain needs three-quarters of a second to direct you to make a change. The total elapsed time in a golf swing from the completion of the back swing until impact is on average one-half of one second. Therefore any indecisive or mechanical thoughts or feelings you have during your swing are useless. They only produce tension, anxiety, and stress. If the tension occurs in the left hand the club face will tend to turn to the right. If in the right the face turns to the left.
So be driven by the process of perfecting your grip.
If you start with your hands and club face in perfect positions, at your target, and nothing changes during the swing, it is impossible for the shot to curve off line.
Same goes for posture. The club head will swing on the exact path that your arms swing on. So if your body is aimed where you want your shot to start, your arms are hanging directly below your shoulders, and you are in athletic posture the club head shall swing on that path unless you cause it to deviate.
So be driven by the process of perfecting your posture.
The LORD gave each of us shoulders and hips that are designed to rotate. We don’t need to consciously turn them. All we have to do, being in perfect posture, is move the upper body over our back leg. Once the weight is back there the lower body, the strongest muscle group will move to the target.
I promise you that if you perfect your grip your club face will impact the ball in the position you want it to. If you perfect your posture not only will your path be great, your body will be in its most powerful position.
You will get the outcome you have been looking for. Perfect golf shots where you control both distance and direction perfectly.
