For about a year and a half, I have been flat out horrible getting out of greenside bunkers. I hit way behind the ball and the bottom of the club skids into the ball. Practice hasn't helped and even spending practice sessions with accomplished bunker players has left them scratching their heads at my ineptness.
The other day I watched Lynn's video on bunker play, Yoda of Arabia. Half-way through the video, I got it. I proceeded to the course later that day and began by chipping and doing the basic motion for about 40 balls and then did the same with the acquired motion. Then I entered a bunker and dropped 8 balls. 8 for 8, nice soft shots OUT of the bunker. I practiced again on Friday and hit ball after ball out of the bunker for about 30 balls.
The videos are excellent for a refresher. I rewatch the Collin Neeman videos often and the other night watched basic motion with chip, pitch, etc several times AND caught my issue by watching Yoda demostrate the basic two feet back, two feet through. I made the adjustment and have chipped/pitched beautifully the last couple of rounds. IMO you should watch the videos every chance you get. Like Yoda for free!
Wow. Even better now after watching the John Riegger w/Rob Noel video. I had way too much action going on. Now I look like Iron Byron out of the bunker. Thanks Yoda and John.
