Stan Utley on TGC last night
Anyone else watch Utley last night on TGC? Thought he made some very good points, things I have not heard before. Really liked how he talked about how the elbows should be loose and fold almost like in a full swing.

I got a copy of stan on the golf channel. Really good communicator and some great stuff. Here is my opionated problem with what he is teaching.

He says the shoulders move around the spine (left shoulder plane angle), the forearms should be in plane (flying wedges), and the stroke should be athletic. Really great stuff.

He says the putter should move in a curve on the ground and the face would stay parallel to that curve (Angled hinging). He says the putter will move back,up,and in during the backstroke and then down, out, and forward (awesome).

He then brings out a training device and explains the incline plane it is on is 68 degrees (Now what is that!) That means he feels the putter should be bent to 68 degrees and then you should use an arm only stroke. If you were to use your shoulders the putter will not travel on this plane, it will travel on the plane of the left shoulder (TGM talk).

So, is it shoulder only or right arm only. They are different. For all the right arm putters out there he is dead on, however, the for the shoulder only putters out there they should be moving on a plane angle which is 77 degrees. The mix in geometry between the shoulder and arm stroke changes the geometry of the circle.

awesome -yes
I was very surprised by Ut’s presentation. None of that ever made it into print from what I have ever read by then again Ut wouldn’t have written it. His thoughts on how the arm and hands could have been presented by an AI. I was always a SBST putter but once I stopped “looking” at the clubhead and monitored my Hands and traced the Straight Plane Line - like all strokes- I noticed that the clubhead, depending on the length of the back swing- moved in a Natural Arc.
I’m am a believer. Hats off to VJ and to Stan’s nice Golf Academy Live.
