hands at address position
I'm new to TGM and I'm very glad to see that Lynn has started this site. I was lucky enough to have a phone conversation last month with Lynn himself, about changing my swing mechanics to take the stress off of my ailing left elbow. He suggested that I try to move to a right arm dominated, hitters move, to help with my problem. My question has to do with the basic address position that is best for this. My present address position (with driver)has the butt of the club pointing exactly at my navel. I've noticed in Lynn's videos, that the butt of his club seems to be pointed in the direction of the inner left thigh. Is it better for someone trying to use a right forearm pickup move to have the club in this position at address ? I've been experimenting also with my usual address, but then starting with a slight foward press of my hands. It seems like this helps me feel more of a right hand pickup, as it feels like the club almost "rebounds"off of the foward press into the backswing. Is it better to start with the handle slightly more forward ,or start with a slight foward press move ? Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure Yoda will correct me if I'm wrong, but I'll give it a stab. Look in the book 3-F-5. You'll see the impact fix as part of the address routine. That part is when you make sure about all your alignments are correct for impact (clubface to plane line, grip to clubface, hands to ball, plane angle, pressure points, right forearm position). In the video where he's hitting a driver with the winter clothes on, that's what Yoda's talking about making sure about every time before he hits.

From there, you have the option of moving your hands to midbody in the "adjusted address" position. That is the more traditional address (butt of club pointing to your navel). For swingers, that is good, because you can do a forward press and start your club with some momentum without a lot of tension in your arms. For the hitter, the impact fix is a good starting position, I think because you just take the whole package to the top and back downplane, maintaining the original alignments.

It's up to you what is more advantageous. If you maintain the three imperatives with your midbody hands, do that. If you don't, try the impact fix as your address position.
